The new road-rail excavator CAT M323F on a Limoges worksite
The new RAILSHINE RENTAL road-rail excavator, the CAT M323F, works on a MARC company worksite, by night, especially for drilling tasks alongside SNCF railways. […]Read more All news >
The excavator lifts very high loads. With the cab orientated perpendicularly to the track, the road-rail excavator can lift more than 4t at 4m from track centre, a performance very hard to match. On the other hand, the 22TRR benefits from the exceptional booms kinematic for earth-moving works – a Caterpillar design – which shows results in the construction sites productivity.
The vehicle travels on the tracks through hydrostatic transmission with rail wheels, without any contact with the tires, for more precision, performance and safety. The hydrostatic rail drive gives a high level of control. The road-rail excavator is far better controlled in particular in rainy weather. Moreover, and this is also important on a rental invoice, the excavator is much more economical on use with much less tires to change.
The 22TRR stands out from the pack thanks to its reliability, attained by and large by the experience feedback, taking into account the large number of working vehicles manoeuvring today on the rail tracks, and by the ongoing and sustained efforts of the UNAC/Caterpillar team.
The 22TRR road-rail excavator is approved by SNCF (French Railways) and by several state railways across Europe. It is actually the best seller in France since 2010. The 22TRR is commonly perceived as a premium, exclusive, secure and top-of-the-line road-rail excavator.
RAILSHINE RENTAL is a main player in the rental of road-rail excavators.
RAILSHINE RENTAL has a park of road-rail excavators Unac 22TRR last generations, the best excavators on the market.
RAILSHINE RENTAL proposes a global service including the rental of the excavator and its equipment (Rototilt Engcon, Engcon forklift frame, Engcon buckets, Kinshofer clamshell bucket…), an experimented driver, and its car with tools for first maintenances and feeding tank.
The manufacturer’s video shows the 22TRR road-rail excavator working on a site in Nancy (France) area. As it can be watched in the end of the video, the machine offers the possibility to work with the next track open to traffic. Other videos showing the road-rail excavator proposed for rental, are available upon request.

The road-rail excavator proposed by Railshine Rental offers a key advantage: it doesn’t have any oscillating rail axle. The manufacturer designed the rail axle arms so that there are flexible enough to successfully pass the track twists, and strong enough to bear off-centred loads without the need of locking any rail axle. The driver has a particular interest in this feature since, finally, it exists one machine that enables to travel back and forth on the rail track with an off-centered load, without need of locking/unlocking an oscillating rail axle, knowing that this operation is very often needed during earth-moving works.
The hi-rail excavator is designed to lift heavy loads from the rail tracks, at 360°. Indeed, when it is perpendicular to the track, the road-rail excavator can lift more than 4t at 4m from track centre and more than 2t at 6m. When operating along the track axis, the excavator lift more than 11t at 3m from rotation center.
The SMART-CS is unparalleled for its ergonomics and safety levels, enabling to work under live overhead catenary system and with the next track open to traffic. Unlike other exisisting systems, the UNAC SMART-CS is an ultimate system entirely designed for the use on the rail tracks. For instance, the system is capable to calculate all booms angle in order to automatically and in real-time define the height limit for the booms so that the machine could be used in optimal conditions under catenary or under civil engineering structure.
In order to ensure proper and safe acceleration and braking of the vehicle, the road-rail excavator was subject to a thorough research program defining the best possible acceleration and deceleration ramps in hydrostatic mode. The machine could therefore be electronically set up for an optimal braking, to best meet to all meteorological conditions and track geometries.
for very accurate proportional control.
Embedded air brake system enabling to control wagons or rail trailers.
The short stick eases the earth-moving and load handling works under catenary system.
8m outreach, plus attachment
Note: the VA boom offers improved right side visibility and machine roading balance. When working in tight quarters or lifting heavy loads, the VA boom offers the best flexibility.

The extra large flushing bucket allows to improve the leveling of the ballast:
– Volume: 892L
– Width: 2200mm
– Weight: 590Kg
The earthwork bucket is used with the rototilt and allows to complete earth-moving works in a very secure, ergonomics and quick way.
– Volume: 850L
– Width: 1100mm
– Weight: 600kg
The deep-digging bucket is used on the rototilt and allows quick penetrations and bucket filling. This is the ideal attachment for ditch works for instance.
– Volume: 750L
– Width: 1600mm
– Weight: 457kg
The Engcon rototilt is the ideal complement to the UNAC 22TRR road-rail excavator. Equipped with Engcon’s microprop SS10 proportional control system that gives stepless control and maximum precision.
– Rototilt ref.: Engcon EC219,
– Rotation: unlimited,
– Tilt angle: +/- 45°,
– Weight: 450kg.
Engcon forklift frame in tempered steel are designed for the best possible visibility.
– Forklift dimensions 125x45x1200mm
– Overall weight 280kg,
– Maximal load 4,7t
The Kinshofer clamshell bucket is ideal for the rail works. It is compact for better use under catenary system and allows quick and easy swap of the buckets to best fit with the work needs. The clamshell bucket has high clampling force for most efficient digging. The clamshell bucket includes a pendulum damper.
– Available bucket widths: 300mm (special railways), 600mm (volume: 245L).
– Maximum load capacity: 4,5t,
– Weight: 700kg.
The Kinshofer railway grapples can be mounted on the clamshell bucket instead of the buckets to take rail tracks.
